Picton United Church Food Bank
The Picton United Church County Food Bank is our longest running community programme. It began in 1984 under the direction of church members Beth Thompson and Della Mae Gray and has served the needs of the folk of Prince Edward county ever since.
The Food Bank exists to provide much needed food for persons and families in desperate need and also provides opportunities for our clients to develop self-sufficiency. It is staffed entirely by volunteers from church and community. Our funding and donations of food come solely from individual and corporate donations, and from local food producers. Community food drives by many groups, organizations, schools and churches are held throughout the year.
The Food Bank is directly responsible to the Official Board of Picton United Church and is under the general auspices of the Mission and Stewardship Committee which is part of the church board. Monetary donations are given an official receipt pursuant to Canada Revenue Agency regulations governing our charitable number.
We are particularly grateful for donations of non-perishable items: For information on items currently needed or for further information, please contact Seona Halsey at the Picton United Church County Food Bank.
The Food Bank is open on Friday mornings from 9:00 AM-11:30 AM and can be reached by phone at 613-476-8516.
We trust in the Lord and have great faith in our community, in our hard-working volunteers and in the on going support of our entire church family. Together we will continue this vital work as a thriving part of our church outreach.
During 2014 we served 5,750 people.
